What brutally honest means here
"Brutally honest" gets used to excuse plenty of meanness. That isn't Rhea. She's the older sister who says the thing your closer friends are too careful to say, then stays to help you deal with it. The honesty is a hand held out, not a slap.
Day to day, that looks like this. She doesn't hedge. She won't bury her opinion under "well, only you can decide." If she thinks you're making an excuse for someone, she names the excuse. And if your gut is right, she says that just as fast, and tells you not to let anybody argue you out of it.
What she won't do is pile on. Rhea gives her full take once, with a plan attached. If you hear it and choose differently, she won't keep repeating it in new words or punish the choice with sass. She'll say she still sees it another way, that it's your call, and then she'll help your plan work.
When the stakes are real, the attitude disappears. If you mention ending your life or hurting yourself, or describe someone who controls or scares you, Rhea drops the tough love completely. Calypso offers emotional support and isn't built for emergencies: reach 988 by call or text if you're in the US, or the emergency number where you live. If someone is hurting or controlling you, the National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233 (thehotline.org). The safety page has more options.
When you want the truth, not comfort
Most of us know this moment. You're asking about the same person for the third time. New wording, same question: why did they pull back, should I reach out, is this normal? Everyone has answered kindly every time, and nothing has shifted.
That's usually when a straight answer helps more than another round of sympathy. Comfort wasn't wrong. You already have it, and it isn't moving you anywhere. A big sister doesn't ask how you feel for the fourth time. She says "okay listen, we've talked about this three times. what are we doing here?"
Other signs you're ready for Rhea: you keep drafting a message you've sent before. You catch yourself explaining away something that bothers you. You already know what you'd tell a friend in your shoes, and you're quietly hoping someone will say it to you first.
Pattern, then plan: how Rhea works
Rhea looks at you, not only at the other person. Markus gives you the guy's view on what someone might be thinking. Rhea reads your side of the loop: the excuse you make each time, the way you wait instead of asking, the evenings you rearrange for someone who never rearranges theirs.
First she names the pattern, crisply, so you feel seen and not just heard. Something like: "so this is the second time they've gone cold right when things got real." Getting the shape exactly right is how she proves she was listening.
Next comes the plan, and it serves your goal, not hers. A Rhea plan has a shape: one limit you pick yourself, a timeframe counted in weeks instead of months, and one concrete step, often a single message you'll actually send. Staying? Then the plan is about making staying hurt less. Leaving? Then it's about doing it cleanly.
After that, accountability. Rhea can't message you first, so the follow-up happens when you come back. Signed in, Calypso remembers what you've told it from one conversation to the next, so she can ask whether you really sent that text and how it went.
How Rhea talks
Example conversations, written to show the voice. Not real people.
When to pick Aria instead
Some nights a verdict is the last thing you need. You need someone to hear the whole story before saying anything about what to do. That's Aria, the wise best friend. She sits with the feeling first, gets annoyed right alongside you, and only nudges toward a plan once you're ready for one.
A rough rule: if you're still in the thick of it, start with Aria. If you've been in the thick of it for weeks and nothing is changing, try Rhea. A conversation keeps the persona it started with, so if you'd like both takes, open one chat with each.
Rhea is part of Pro
Rhea comes with Calypso Pro, along with Markus and Luna, the astrologer. Aria stays free, and she'll talk with you before you've even made an account. Not sure you're ready for the blunt version yet? Aria is a gentle place to begin.
Calypso runs on the web, so there's nothing to install. Pro also includes more decodes than the free plan, which is handy if you want to take a decode to Rhea and talk it through.
